Global Pursuits, Inc. was founded by James DiLisio, a professor of geography and Irish studies at Towson University since 1975.  After leading tours for 20 years, professor DiLisio founded Global Pursuits, Inc. to offer high quality trips available to the general public.  He provides trips reasonable in cost and tailored to the demands of travelers who want more than the usual commercial mass-marketed tours.

Global Pursuits, Inc. is operated with a style and guiding philosophy that sets it apart from other tour operators.

• We offer a very personal level of service to our trip participants.  Groups are kept to a moderate size to keep the tour more enjoyable for all.
  
• Professor DiLisio personally leads every tour.  He and his wife Kay are there to take care of the details.  They are sensitive to individual needs and work hard to make these trips a memorable event.
  
• The DiLisio's travel to countries to carefully select itineraries, hotels, sites, and events before including them on a tour.
  
• All hotels, coach companies, drivers, and airlines are carefully selected and screened.
  
• Selected on-site guides are used for visits to some locations.
  
• Literature is prepared for distribution during the trip i.e. maps, short histories, music sheets, and other notes.  Our mini-guides for walking tours have become "famous."
  
• Dr. DiLisio prepares new material, lectures, and taped music for every trip.  Taped narratives by noted scholars are used to enhance our coach drives.
  
• We visit a variety of sites.  The pace is relaxed and the spirit high!  Enough free time for individual activities and exploration is built into each trip.
  
• Tours are designed to include the major sites of a country, to avoid tourists traps and places that do not truly reflect the country, and to include some quiet off the beaten path visits that make our trips unique.  For those within driving distance of Baltimore, we conduct pre-trip meetings to give you some background on the country as well as to review travel preparations, parking, security, contact numbers and more.  We usually conduct a post-trip celebration to share our experiences, swap photos, and talk about our next trip together (our repeat customer rates are extremely high!).
  
• Our tours usually employ a luxury coach and a professional driver of our choice.  We provide door to door service and porters at hotels.  There are some walking tours on all of our trips.  They are usually not strenuous, but require more walking than most of us are used to.  You may elect to do parts of walking tours.  Those that are more energetic might want to hike, jog, horseback ride, or boat.  Flexibility is a major feature of our tours.
  
• Our tours often include participants ranging in age from teenagers to those in their 90's.  Over the years we have enjoyed seeing younger and older travelers go to dinner theater, or shop together.  An evening in an Irish pub with great traditional music is enjoyed by all ages.
