Grand Ireland Tour July 13-27, 2001

Fri. July 13: Fly Baltimore-Ireland on Aer Lingus
Sat. July 14: Arrive in Ireland, coach to Belfast, brief city tour, overnight with dinner at Jury's Inn in central Belfast.
Sun. July 15: All day trip to Derry with guided tour along city walls. Stops at Giant's Causeway to walk on a fantastic geologic formation, Bushmill's Distillery, the beautiful Antrim coast. Overnight with dinner at Jury's Inn, Belfast.
Mon. July 16: Travel south into Republic of Ireland. Stop in Boyne Valley at Battle of Boyne site (1690), and Knowth megalithic site for guided tour. City tour of Dublin. Overnight at Trinity College. Evening free (there are many pubs and restaurants in Temple Bar near Trinity.
Tues. July 17: See the famous  Book of Kells illuminated manuscript of the gospels, walking tour of Dublin goes to Abbey Theater (get tickets for tonight!), General Post Office, Moore Street open market to buy some food for a picnic, Christ Church Cathedral. That still leaves time for a private walk through beautiful St. Stephen's Green and afternoon tea at the Shelbourne Hotel. Evening free. Join us for some traditional music at a local pub!
Wed. July 18: Travel south to St. Kevin's 6th century monastery in the Wicklow Mts. A walk along the quiet lakes and among the ruins will clear your head after being in the city! Then on to Kilkenny Castle for a guided tour. Overnight at Newpark Hot el with dinner included.
Thur. July 19: Travel to Rock of Cashel in Co. Tipperary. This is a fabulous site with the ruins of a castle-monastic community. Later  visit to Blarney Castle to kiss the famous stone, if you wish. Take some time to visit the Blarney Woolen Mill next door for that Irish sweater. Overnight with dinner at the waterfront Trident Hotel in the lovely coastal resort of Kinsale.
Fri. July 20: Morning visit to Charles Fort, built by the British. Afternoon free in Kinsale to see the galleries, shops, and harbor. Evening free (this is the gourmet capital of Ireland….be adventurous!).
Sat. July 21: Travel southwest through the mountains to Killarney. Visit Muckross House, an old English estate. Overnight at the lovely Randles Court Hotel with one of their great dinners.
Sun. July 22: All day trip around the famous scenic Ring of Kerry. Dinner and overnight at Randles Court Hotel.
Mon. July 23: Travel north to the lovely village of Adare with its thatched roofs. Then it's via Limerick on the main road to Galway for overnight at Jury's Inn. Evening free. This hotel is smack in the middle of central Galway with many nearby restaurants, shops, and clubs. The waterfront is across the street.
Tues. July 24: Take the ferry from Rossaveal in Connemara to Inishmore, the largest of  the Aran Islands. On the island you may take a jaunting cart, mini-van tour, bike, or hike. Evening free in Galway.
Wed. July 25: Sleep in a little late this morning. All day free in Galway to relax, shop, walk the waterfront to the nearby village of Claddagh (famous for the Irish wedding rings). Evening free.
Thur. July 26: Travel south to the Burren with its fantastic limestone landscape. Then visit the 700' Cliffs of Moher. Overnight at the wonderful Bunratty Castle Hotel with a farewell to Ireland dinner and ceili (dance, music, and lots of meade and wine).
Fri. July 27: A short 15 minute drive to Shannon Airport for the flight to Baltimore.
